The United Bowhunters of Illinois Present

David Petersen

David Petersen has spent most of his adult life observing and writing about “wildlife, wild places, wild people, and wild ideas.” Most recent of his 15 books is A Man Made of Elk (www.davidpetersenbooks.com). Additionally, Dave has contributed to scores of publications, and co-authors "The Campfire Philosopher" in Traditional Bowhunter Magazine.

Born in Oklahoma, Petersen enlisted in the Marines as a private in 1968. In 1974 he resigned with the rank of captain, having spent most of his tour as a helicopter pilot. Today, Dave works as the Colorado Field Director for Trout Unlimited’s Sportsmen's Conservation Project, and is volunteer co-chair for Colorado Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (www.coloradobackountryhunters.org), educating and organizing sportsmen in support of public wildlife habitat and traditional, quiet-use outdoor values. Dave is a lifelong traditional bowhunter with a deep concern for high ethical standards and respect for the animals we hunt.

Dave and his wife, Caroline, have lived since 1980 in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, near Durango, in a tiny self-built cabin at 8,000’ in the heart of elk country.
